Using the Simple Filter

Using The Simple Filter

This tutorial was written by me and any resemblance to other tutorials is purely coincidental. PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE this tutorial from Ladyhawwk Designs.

We will be playing with a filter called Simple Filter Set which you can download HERE
I used the "Simple Center Tile" and "Top Left Mirror" filters from the set.

There are MANY filters in the Simple filter set, and I've only chosen 2 out of the set for the quick little tagback that you see below. Feel free to use any of the filter(s) that you wish to. Let's have some fun and give it a try. If you'd like to try what I did you can follow the short tutorial below. I decided to make a tagback with these filters. This is what I made.

You can download the tube I used
HERE and mask that I used HERE
Put your mask in your masks folder in your PSP folder
Open your tube in PSP

This is how I made the tagback:

1. Open a new image in PSP Raster, 400 x 400 white background
2. Go to your rose tube and "edit" then "copy"
3. Go to your new 400 x 400 image and "edit" then "paste as new layer"
4. Resize your tube layer "image" then "resize". I resized by 50% , Resample using "Bicubic", Lock aspect ratio checked and resize all layers UNCHECKED.
5. Adjust "Blur" then "Gaussian Blur" set at "45"
6. Go to "Effects", "Simple" and choose "Simple Center Tile"
7. Duplicate your Raster 2 layer
8. Image Flip
9. Merge all layers "visible"
10. Go back to your flower tube. "Edit" then "copy"
11. Go back to your 400 x 400 image and "Edit" then "paste as new layer"
12. Resize your flower layer by 50% same settings as you used before.
13. Go to "Effects", "Simple" and choose "Top Left Mirror"
14. Lower the Opacity to 35%
15. Merge all layers visible
16. Go to "Layers" then "Load/Save Mask", then "Load Mask from Disk" Search for the mask "BCFloral2"

These are the settings I used for my mask

Create mask from ~ Source Luminance
Orientation ~ Fit to Canvas
Invert Transparency ~ UNCHECKED
Hide all mask ~ checked
Click "load"
17. Right click on your mask layer and choose "merge group"
18. Duplicate your layer
19. "Image" then "Mirror

We now want to erase the edges of both layers so that our decorative border shows.
20. Still with your "Copy of merged group" layer active select your eraser tool with the following settings:
Shape ~ Square
Size ~ 55
Hardness ~ 60
Step ~ 32
Go over to the right hand side and start to erase from right to left until you just see the edge of the border showing. Continue to erase down the right hand side until all the border shows.
21. Activate your "Group Merge" layer by clicking on it and select your eraser tool with the same settings:
Shape ~ Square
Size ~ 55
Hardness ~ 60
Step ~ 32
22. Go over to the left hand side and start to erase from left to right until you just see the edge of the border showing. Continue to erase down the left hand side until all the border shows.
23. Now "Merge Visible" your layers
24. Add a new raster layer, then right click on that new layer and "Arrange" then "send to bottom". Flood fill that layer with white.
25. "Image", then "add borders" "Symmetric" CHECKED, Size "5" color "#453525"
26. Save as a "jpg" and you're all done.
If you like how it looks you can now save.

There you go ALL DONE. That is how you can use the Simple Filter to create a tagback.
